Changelog
Release notes for every Eddy release, newest first. Each one is a beta, published on the releases page.
Eddy 0.6.23 beta
Ad blocking fix, reported in the F-Droid review:
- Ads and trackers are now blocked on the first page opened from the start page or the address bar. Before, that page's earliest requests could load before Eddy knew which site the page belonged to, so nothing counted as third party.
- Google Tag Manager is blocked by the built-in tracker list.
- The About page links to the new website, eddybrowser.xyz.
Validation: 49 unit tests and 39 on-device tests pass on an Android 15 emulator, including a new test for the first-page case, and Android lint reports no errors.

Eddy 0.6.22 beta
Fixes from a full bug audit of the app:
- Security: file uploads can no longer hand a page Eddy's own private files, the password manager closes every open sheet and export when it relocks, and HTTPS-only now covers public IP addresses.
- Privacy: incognito site settings are forgotten when the last private tab closes, private browsing leaves nothing in the app log, downloads no longer leak full page addresses, Clear site data removes more cookies, and clearing the cache also removes tab previews.
- Downloads: resuming is more reliable and never splices two versions of a file, binary data downloads stay intact, and failed or abandoned downloads clean up after themselves.
- Fixes for the PDF viewer, view source, bookmark import, password import, find in page, dictation, Back in bookmark folders and the reduced-motion setting.
- App text now lives in Android string resources, ready for translation.
Validation: 49 unit tests and all 38 on-device tests pass on an Android 15 emulator, and Android lint reports no errors. The security fixes are covered by tests but were not checked against a real attack on a device.

Eddy 0.6.21 beta
Improved ad blocking:
- Added URL path rules that can block ad scripts served from a site's own domain.
- Added support for filter exceptions, site restrictions, and first-party/third-party conditions.
- Prevented scoped rules from becoming whole-domain blocks.
- Preserved existing downloaded domain caches during migration.
Validation: unit tests, including six new rule-matching regression tests, and Android lint. No on-device validation was performed. The blocker supports a conservative subset of Adblock syntax; embedded video ads may still appear.

Eddy 0.6.20 beta
Incognito is off by default again.
Changed
- Incognito off by default. New tabs, links from other apps and each start open in a normal tab again. This also turns it off if 0.6.19 turned it on for you. To keep incognito, turn on Always open incognito in Settings > Privacy and security.
Coming from 0.6.14 or older? You need to reinstall once; see the 0.6.15 release for how to keep your passwords.
eddy-0.6.20-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.20-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as 0.6.15, so they install over it and you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.19 beta
Incognito by default, and links open in their apps.
New
- Incognito by default. New tabs, links from other apps and each start open incognito. Turn it off in Settings > Privacy and security.
- Links open in their apps. Links to TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, the Play Store and other apps open in those apps.
- One Eddy entry. Open-with menus show one "Eddy" entry instead of two.
Coming from 0.6.14 or older? You need to reinstall once; see the 0.6.15 release for how to keep your passwords.
eddy-0.6.19-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.19-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as 0.6.15, so they install over it and you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.18 beta
Open incognito directly, from the app icon or from other apps.
New
- Incognito from the app icon. Long-press the Eddy icon and pick Incognito tab to start browsing privately right away.
- Open links from other apps in incognito. When another app opens a link or shares text, pick Eddy Incognito to open it in an incognito tab, with no history kept.
Coming from 0.6.14 or older? You need to reinstall once; see the 0.6.15 release for how to keep your passwords.
eddy-0.6.18-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.18-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as 0.6.15, so they install over it and you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.17 beta
Video and audio keep playing in the background.
Fixed
- Background playback. Videos and audio, including YouTube, keep playing when you switch to another app or turn the screen off. Use the media notification to pause.
Coming from 0.6.14 or older? You need to reinstall once; see the 0.6.15 release for how to keep your passwords.
eddy-0.6.17-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.17-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as 0.6.15, so they install over it and you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.16 beta
YouTube video ads are blocked.
Fixed
- YouTube ads. With ad blocking on, ads no longer play before or during YouTube videos, including YouTube videos embedded in other sites. If YouTube changes how it delivers an ad and one slips through, Eddy mutes it and fast-forwards it. Turning off content blocking for youtube.com in site settings turns this off too.
Coming from 0.6.14 or older? You need to reinstall once; see the 0.6.15 release for how to keep your passwords.
eddy-0.6.16-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.16-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as 0.6.15, so they install over it and you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.15 beta
Important: you need to reinstall Eddy once. We lost the key that signed earlier versions, so this version is signed with a new one. Android will not install it over an older Eddy and shows "App not installed". To switch:
- If you saved passwords in Eddy, export them first: Menu > Passwords, then the ⋮ menu > Export to CSV.
- Uninstall Eddy. This removes your tabs, history and bookmarks.
- Install
eddy-0.6.15-beta.apkfrom this page. - To bring passwords back, use Menu > Passwords, then ⋮ > Import from CSV. Delete the CSV file afterwards: it is not encrypted.
Sorry for the trouble. Future updates install normally again.
Added
- Translate pages. Open the menu, tap Translate and pick a language. Your phone's language is listed first. Eddy opens the page through Google Translate, so Google receives the page address. Pages that need you to sign in can't be translated.
eddy-0.6.15-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.15-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the new key, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.14 beta
Opening downloaded apps works, and the start page shortcuts can be hidden.
Fixed
- Opening downloaded APKs. The Open button in Downloads did nothing for app files. It now starts Android's installer. Android still asks you to allow installs from Eddy and to confirm each one.
Added
- Hide shortcuts. Long-press the Add tile or any shortcut on the start page and choose Hide shortcuts. To show them again, go to Settings > Appearance > Start page.
eddy-0.6.14-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.14-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.13 beta
Clearer terms and a full list of network connections.
Changed
- Terms of service. The terms no longer limit how you use Eddy. They now state the Apache 2.0 licence, the beta notice and the warranty disclaimer. See Settings > Legal.
- Store description. The description now lists every connection Eddy makes on its own: the default filter lists, which update about once a day, and Web3Forms, which Eddy contacts only when you send a support message.
eddy-0.6.13-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.13-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.12 beta
A home-screen search widget, new app icons, and an easier-to-read view source.
New
- Search widget. Add Eddy's search bar to your home screen. Tap the bar to type, the mic to search by voice, or the mask to open an incognito tab. The welcome tour offers to add it for you, or add it from your launcher's widget list.
- App icons. Pick from eleven launcher icons in Settings > Appearance.
- Readable view source. Page source is indented one tag per line, with colors for tags, attributes and values, and line numbers. Copy still gives you the original markup.
Improved
- Pull to refresh. The indicator fills in as you pull, then keeps spinning until the page has reloaded, like in Firefox.
Fixes
- Read aloud now works with speech engines that Android 11 and newer kept hidden from the app.
eddy-0.6.12-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.12-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.11 beta
Better blocking for popup and redirect ads.
Fixes
- Ad redirects are stopped. Some sites send the page you're on to an ad, either on their own or right after a tap. Eddy now stops any tab, not just popups, from going to a known ad server. You stay on the page you were reading.
- Blocked links show a warning. If you tap a link to a domain on your blocklist, Eddy shows a "blocked" page instead of loading it. Tap Go back to return, or Open anyway if you meant to go there.
New
- HaGeZi pop-up ads list. A new default filter list aimed at popup and popunder ad networks, which change domains too fast for the general lists. It turns on by itself and downloads with the next filter update.
eddy-0.6.11-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.11-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.10 beta
A fix for popup ads.
Fixes
- Popup ads close themselves. Some sites open an ad in a new tab when you tap anywhere on the page. Eddy allowed these because they came from a real tap. Now, if the new tab goes to a known ad server, even through a redirect, Eddy closes it straight away. Normal popups, like sign-in windows, still open.
eddy-0.6.10-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.10-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.9 beta
New tools for looking under the hood, plus one fix.
New
- View source. Open the menu on any page and tap View source to see its markup. Copy it with the button at the top.
- Text files open in Eddy. Downloaded text files (.txt, .json, .html, .csv, .log and similar) open in the same viewer instead of needing another app.
- App logs. Settings › Advanced › App logs shows what Eddy has been logging, newest first, with errors in red. If a site misbehaves, copying this into a bug report helps a lot. It also lists which requests the ad and tracker blocker stopped. (#2)
Fixes
- Some downloaded files didn't open in other apps when the site sent their file type in unusual capitalization.
eddy-0.6.9-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.9-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.8 beta
One fix from your feedback. Thanks!
Fixes
- No more crash when signing in to X (Twitter). If your X account has a passkey, entering your username crashed Eddy. Eddy was missing an Android permission it needs to ask the system for passkeys. Any site that offers passkey sign-in could trigger the crash, not only X. (#2)
eddy-0.6.8-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.8-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.7 beta
One fix from your feedback. Thanks!
Fixes
- Signing in to X (Twitter) works. X refused to log in with "Sorry, you are not allowed to log in at this time", even with the right password. Eddy was still identifying itself to sites as an Android web view in one place; it now identifies as Chrome everywhere, and X lets you sign in. (#2)
eddy-0.6.7-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.7-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.6 beta
Two fixes from your feedback. Thanks!
Fixes
- Downloads keep their real name. Videos from sites like ssstik.io used to save as
.binfiles. Eddy now keeps the file name the site gives, so they save as.mp4and open in your video player. - Paste buttons work. Buttons on websites that paste from your clipboard did nothing. Eddy now asks "Paste from clipboard?" first and hands the page your copied text only if you tap Paste.
eddy-0.6.6-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.6-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.5 beta
A small polish from your feedback. Thanks!
Fixes
- Messages sit right above the toolbar. Notices like "Closed tab" with Undo used to float well above the bottom toolbar. They now sit just above it.
eddy-0.6.5-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.5-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.4 beta
A small fix from your feedback. Thanks!
Fixes
- Tab previews on scrolled pages. If you had scrolled down a page, its card in the tab list showed no preview. Now it shows the part of the page you were looking at.
Updates
Installed Eddy from GitHub? The README now explains how to get updates automatically with Obtainium. Turn on Include prereleases when you add Eddy, since every release so far is a pre-release.
eddy-0.6.4-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.4-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.3 beta
The tab list is easier to get around, and links that open a new tab behave better when you go back. All of this came from your feedback. Thanks!
New
- The tab list opens at your current tab. With lots of tabs open, you no longer have to scroll down from the top to find the one you're on.
- Drag tabs to reorder them. Long-press a tab in the tab list, then drag it where you want it. A quick sideways swipe still closes a tab.
- Choose whether links switch to the tab they open. When a page opens a link in a new tab, Eddy switches to it, like before. Turn off Settings > Tabs > Switch to tabs opened by links to keep those tabs in the background. A "Switch" button then appears for a few seconds.
Fixes
- Back returns to the page that opened the tab. Going back in a tab that a link just opened used to show the start page first. Now it closes that tab and takes you back to the page you came from.
eddy-0.6.3-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.3-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.2 beta
Swiping tabs away now works properly. The fix in 0.6.1 didn't hold up on real phones, so this release replaces it.
Fixes
- Swiping a tab away closes it. Tab cards could stop where you let go and stay open, on the Galaxy Z Flip 7's inner screen and on other phones. The tab list now uses Android's standard swipe-to-dismiss, so a quick flick or a short drag closes the tab, and a card you let go early slides back into place. Tested on a Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Also new since 0.6.0 (from 0.6.1)
- Swipe up on the toolbar to see your tabs. A short swipe on the address bar, away from the edge of the screen, opens the tab list. That is up when the toolbar is at the bottom, down when it is at the top. Swiping sideways still switches tabs.
- Settings > Advanced no longer repeats the search engine and filter list shortcuts. Add a custom search engine from Settings > General > Default search engine, and filter lists from Settings > Privacy and security > Filter lists.
eddy-0.6.2-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.2-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.1 beta
Superseded by 0.6.2 beta. The swipe-to-close fix below did not work on real phones. Please update.
A quick follow-up to 0.6.0 based on your feedback: closing tabs by swiping works properly again, and a new gesture opens the tab list.
New
- Swipe up on the toolbar to see your tabs. A short swipe on the address bar, away from the edge of the screen, opens the tab list. That is up when the toolbar is at the bottom, down when it is at the top. Swiping sideways still switches tabs.
Fixes
- Swiping a tab away no longer leaves it stuck halfway. On some phones, especially ones with fast touch screens like the Galaxy Z Flip 7's inner display, a tab card could stop where you let go and stay open. It now always slides away and closes, or snaps back if you didn't swipe far enough.
- Closing tabs by swiping takes less effort. Dragging a card a quarter of its width, or a gentle flick, is now enough.
- Settings > Advanced no longer repeats the search engine and filter list shortcuts. Add a custom search engine from Settings > General > Default search engine, and filter lists from Settings > Privacy and security > Filter lists.
eddy-0.6.1-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.1-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.
Eddy 0.6.0 beta
Tab swiping, a way to reach the developer, and a large round of fixes from a full review of the app.
New
- Swipe between tabs. Drag the address bar left or right to move to the next or previous tab. The neighbouring tab's preview slides in with the page, a quick flick is enough, and the bar stretches a little when there is no tab that way. Normal and incognito tabs stay separate.
- Settings > Support. Send a bug report, question or idea straight from the app, with your email if you want a reply. Messages go through Web3Forms, only when you tap Send; the privacy policy explains what is included.
Privacy and security
- "Clear when I leave" is now reliable. Android stops background services a minute after you leave an app, so the cleanup often never ran when you swiped Eddy away later. Eddy now finishes it the next time it starts, before any tab comes back. It also clears your open tabs now, since they carry their own page history.
- Copied passwords leave the clipboard even while Eddy is in the background. Before, the one-minute clear only worked if you came back to Eddy.
- Incognito stays hidden from screenshots after visiting Passwords. Opening the password list from an incognito tab used to turn that protection off.
- Warning before saving an app installer from any link. Pages could save an APK through data: and blob: links, or change the file name after you agreed, without the usual question.
Fixes
- Editing a bookmark to an address that already exists in that folder no longer crashes Eddy.
- Pausing and quickly resuming a download (or starting one as another finishes) no longer crashes Eddy.
- With HTTPS-only on, a site that sends you back to http now shows the "continue without HTTPS" page instead of reloading forever.
- Sharing text that contains a link to Eddy opens the link instead of searching for the whole text.
- Reload in the menu reloads, even while the page is still loading.
- Downloads named with a % sign or accented letters keep their names.
- Read aloud works again after the speech engine failed to start once.
- App links that name only an app now fall back to the website the page offers.
- History no longer occasionally shows the next page's title on the previous entry.
- Sign-in and permission dialogs no longer carry over what you typed in the previous one.
- Photos taken for uploads are deleted after a day.
- Icons point the right way in right-to-left languages, and the address field reacts faster while typing.
eddy-0.6.0-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.6.0-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.

Eddy 0.5.2 beta
A small fix release.
Fixes
- The "Playing in Eddy" notification no longer stays up when nothing is playing. A paused video or audio player could keep the background-playback notification showing. Eddy now checks that audio is actually playing, and checks again as soon as you leave the app.
eddy-0.5.2-beta.apk is the normal build. eddy-0.5.2-beta-fdroid.apk is the same app without the developer-tools panel; F-Droid rebuilds it from source and checks it matches. Both are signed with the same key as previous releases, so you can switch between them.

Eddy 0.5.1 beta
A small fix release.
Fixes
- Scrolling no longer reloads the page. On sites that scroll inside a panel instead of the whole page, scrolling back up started a pull-to-refresh. Pull-to-refresh now starts only when the page itself is at the top.
- More ways to sign in. Sites such as GitHub now show their passkey and "Continue with Google" / "Continue with Apple" buttons, which were hidden before.

Eddy 0.5.0 beta
A feature release: background playback, darker pages and quicker ways into Eddy, plus a round of fixes.
Browsing
- Background audio and video. Media keeps playing after you leave the app, with a "Playing in Eddy" notification and a Pause button. The notification goes away when playback stops or you return to Eddy.
- Darken websites (Settings > Appearance). Pages without their own dark theme get dark colors while your phone is in dark mode. Off by default.
- Search selected text from other apps. Select text anywhere and pick Eddy from the text menu to search it.
- Add to home screen now pins a launcher icon for the page, using the site's logo. The old action, which added the page to Eddy's start page, is now called Add to start page.
Settings
- The search engine picker shows each engine's logo.
- The SearXNG instance setting only appears once SearXNG is your engine.
- A redesigned About page, with links to the website and the source code.
Fixes
- Permission prompts close when the page withdraws the request.
- A tab no longer restores a stale page after you navigate away or close it; tabs opened in the background are paused.
- Downloads of blob: and data: files from incognito tabs are marked as incognito.
- Addresses with a port number, like
example.com:8443, open as URLs instead of being searched. - HTTP-only exceptions in HTTPS-only mode now cover only the site's own subdomains.
The attached APK is signed with the same key as previous releases.

Eddy 0.4.0 beta
A feature release: reading tools, a PDF viewer and a set of privacy additions.
Reading and files
- Reader mode strips a page down to the article, using Mozilla's Readability. It stays on across navigations in that tab.
- Read aloud speaks the page through the system speech engine. With reader mode on, it reads the article and nothing else.
- Print or save as PDF through the standard Android print dialog.
- Built-in PDF viewer: downloaded PDFs open in Eddy instead of being handed to another app, with Share and "open in another app" still one tap away.
- Finished downloads now offer Open, both in the snackbar and as a notification action.
Privacy and safety
- HTTPS-only mode, on by default. Plain
http://pages are loaded over HTTPS, and a site that answers only over http gets a warning page offering to continue unencrypted for the rest of the session. Loopback and LAN addresses are exempt. - A confirmation before downloading installers and other executable files, naming the file and the site it came from.
- Incognito tabs are hidden from screenshots and from the recents thumbnail.
- Clear when I leave: optionally wipe history, cookies, site data and cache when Eddy is swiped out of recents.
- Per-site page text size, set from the site information panel.
- Safe Browsing is now declared explicitly rather than left to the platform default.
Packaging
- Store metadata and an F-Droid build recipe are now in the repository, ahead of a submission to F-Droid.
The attached APK is signed with the same key as previous releases.

Eddy 0.3.0 beta
A feature release: dictation in the address bar, a start page you can compose yourself, on-page developer tools, and faster page loads.
Dictation
- The address bar has a microphone. Tap it to start dictating, tap again to stop, or simply stop talking and it ends by itself. Words appear as you speak them, over a live trace of what the microphone is hearing.
Start page
- A new settings screen at Appearance → Start page. Switch off the title, search box, shortcuts, frequently visited, recently visited or the drifting background shapes, and set the shortcut grid to a fixed number of columns.
- Hidden sections no longer query your history at all.
Developer tools
- A console, network log, element inspector and storage browser, available from the menu on any page.
Speed
- Back and forward now restore the live page instead of reloading it.
- Typing an address opens the connection, and renders the page in the background, before you commit to it.
- The WebView starts up in the background at launch rather than during your first navigation.
- Blocked requests answer with empty content of the type the page asked for. A blocked image used to leave a broken-image placeholder where the ad had been.
- Password autofill no longer runs its listeners in every frame of a page, and blocked-request counting no longer redraws the toolbar on every blocked request.
Fixes
- Notifications at the bottom of the screen can be swiped away instead of waiting out their timer.
The attached APK is signed with the same key as previous releases.
Eddy 0.2.2 beta
A bug-fix release.
- Pages that size elements with viewport units (
100vh,100dvhand similar) now lay out correctly. These units resolved to zero, so full-height panels collapsed. GitHub's navigation drawer, for example, opened as an empty strip. - Desktop site mode now loads real desktop layouts. Before, it only changed the user agent string: sites still saw mobile client hints (
Sec-CH-UA-Mobile,navigator.userAgentData), and responsive pages kept laying out at phone width. Desktop mode now reports desktop client hints, lays pages out 1024px wide and zooms out to fit the screen.
The attached APK is signed with the same key as previous releases.
Eddy 0.2.1 beta
A bug-fix release. Everything here is a correctness or privacy fix; there are no new features.

- Incognito downloads no longer outlive the session that started them. They are recorded as incognito and removed when the last incognito tab closes. The saved file itself stays where you put it.
- Downloads started from an incognito tab used the normal cookie jar, so they sent your regular cookies to the site and could not fetch anything that needed the incognito sign-in. They now use the tab's own jar.
- Cookies are pinned to the host they were read for. A redirect can no longer carry them to a different origin. Redirects to a non-HTTP scheme, or from HTTPS down to HTTP, are refused.
Passwords
- Editing a saved login wrote the new row only after deleting the old one. An interruption in between lost the password. The new row is written first.
- The CSV importer treated a quote inside an unquoted field as the start of a quoted field, which merged the rest of the file into one cell. Such a quote is now literal text.
- Rows past the 10,000-row import cap are reported as skipped instead of disappearing from the count.
- The password manager asked every saved site for its favicon as soon as it opened, which announced your list of saved sites over the network. It no longer does.
- Autofill suggestions now name the site they will fill, and the page bridge ignores subframes so an embedded third-party frame cannot raise a save prompt.
Browsing
- Search suggestions are no longer sent to the search engine from incognito tabs.
- Closing a tab no longer reads or deletes its saved page history on the main thread.
- A tab selected twice while its saved state was still loading could build two WebViews and leak one.
- Favicons are stored under a SHA-256 name instead of a 32-bit hash, which collided and showed one site's icon next to another's name.
The database moves to version 3 for the new downloads column. The migration is automatic; nothing is lost on upgrade.
The attached APK is signed with the same key as previous releases.
Eddy 0.2.0 beta
What's new
- Search settings. Tap the magnifier at the top right of Settings to find any setting by name or keyword, for example "dark", "cookies" or "adblock".
- Steadier address bar. Suggestions used to change on every keystroke and make the text field jump. Eddy now waits for you to pause typing and updates the list once.
Install
Download Eddy-0.2.0-beta.apk and open it. It updates 0.1.0 in place, since both use the same signing key. Requires Android 10 or newer.
The SHA-256 of the APK is in Eddy-0.2.0-beta.apk.sha256. This is still a beta, so report problems in Issues.
Eddy 0.1.0 beta
First public beta of Eddy, a privacy-focused Android browser built on the system WebView.
Install
- Download
Eddy-0.1.0-beta.apkand open it on your phone. Android asks you to allow installs from your browser or file manager. - Requires Android 10 or newer.
- If you installed a debug build from source, uninstall it first. The signing key differs.
What is in this build
- One bottom bar with back, address, new tab, tab counter and menu. It shrinks to a slim pill as you scroll.
- Ad and tracker blocking that cancels requests before they load, with a per-site switch.
- Incognito tabs in a separate profile that is wiped when you close the last one.
- Multiple tabs with a four-WebView memory budget and a tab switcher.
- Password manager: encrypted with an Android Keystore key, asks to save or update after a successful sign-in, fills only when you tap, and sits behind your screen lock. Import and export as CSV.
- Downloads with pause, resume and notifications, including
blob:anddata:downloads. - Bookmarks, history, find in page, desktop site, per-site permissions and themes with a dynamic-color option.
- A short welcome tour on first install. It does not replay after updates.
Beta notes
- Expect rough edges and report them in Issues.
- Password saving and
blob:downloads need a recent Android System WebView. Older ones show a message. - Eddy has no ads, analytics or telemetry. See PRIVACY.md.
SHA-256 of the APK is in Eddy-0.1.0-beta.apk.sha256.
